Frequently Asked Questions

I’m worried I’m not fit enough. Can I still join?

Absolutely. Nordic walking is suitable for all fitness levels and is a great way to gradually improve your fitness.

Beginner sessions are friendly, relaxed and designed to help you learn at your own pace. Many people start Nordic walking simply because they want to be more active, spend time outdoors and improve their wellbeing.

Learning the correct Nordic walking technique makes a big difference. When done properly, Nordic walking engages your arms, shoulders, core and legs, turning a normal walk into a full-body workout.

The beginner course teaches the key movements step-by-step so you can get the most benefit from Nordic walking while enjoying it safely and comfortably.

The difference is all in the poles.

In Nordic walking, the poles are planted behind you to propel you forward, adding rhythm and power to your stride. This engages your arms and upper body and turns a simple walk into a full-body workout.

Trekking poles, by contrast, are mainly used for balance and stability, particularly on uneven terrain.

Trekking poles are designed for stability, whereas Nordic walking poles are designed to help propel you forward and engage your upper body.

Nordic walking poles also have special wrist straps that allow you to push through the strap and release the handle during the walking motion.

Poles can be provided during beginner sessions so you can try Nordic walking before deciding whether to purchase your own.

Wear comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for the weather and supportive walking shoes or trainers.

Many people dress in light, breathable layers so they can adjust as they warm up while walking. It’s also a good idea to bring water, especially on warmer days.

No. Poles can be provided during beginner sessions so you can try Nordic walking without needing to buy equipment first.

If you decide to continue Nordic walking regularly, we can advise you on choosing the right poles and correct size.

Sessions are usually run in small, friendly groups of max 8  so everyone can receive guidance and feel comfortable while learning.

Keeping groups small also helps create a relaxed and social atmosphere where people can enjoy walking together.
